"Carnivorous, Sim-eating whales were a constant threat back in Medieval times. Indeed, legend has it that the ocean was formed from the tears of orphaned children whose parents were devoured by these underwater menaces."

  • Sim can go out on whale hunts, at the port.

DescriptionEdit

EffectsEdit

  • "Whalehunt" available at port. Requires Whaler's Whaleboat and Whaling Harpoon. Harpoon expended in each hunt.
  • Gives buffs Whale Rage Satiated and Whale Slain for successful hunt.
  • Gives debuff Whale Got Away after failed hunt.
  • Gives debuff Whale Rage, if not gone hunting or talked about it for some time.
  • Traits social interaction: Talking about whale hunt, telling about whale story and "Scream at sea".

AnalysisEdit

  • Compared to other traits, this one is a bit more complex because it punishes the player for ignoring it.
  • Still, it's one of the best traits for the following reasons.
  • The buff Whale Rage Satiated (+15 focus, 5 hours) can be gained through Social interactions, so it's very easy to maintain.
  • Whale Rage has no chance of appearing, when Whale Rage Satiated is constantly maintained.
  • Good money can be made with this trait.
  • Each whale hunt, when successful grants varying quantities of whale meat, that sell for roughly §300-§500 (see Commerce on how to sell without going to town shop).
  • Alternatively, it can be turned into the best food in game, whale stew. It gives the buff Whale of a Meal (+25 focus for 36 hours or 72 if Gastrobury is loyal).
  • To go hunting, some money must be invested first. A Whaler's Whaleboat for §800) and a Whaling Harpoon for §100 must be bought in town shop (both can be reduced by high Security and Haggler trait). The harpoon is always expended, so a new one must be bought each time. Only one harpoon can be bought per day from town shop. The Merchant and Blacksmith sometimes sell them too.
  • A Whaler's Whaleboat and Whaling Harpoon can be bought by every hero, so see Item Transfer on how to move them around, so another hero with Haggler should buy the boat.
  • Hunts can fail. Only a 90-95% full focus bar turns it into an automatic success. So saving the game before starting the hunt and reloading on a fail can mitigate this problem. This way, the debuff Whale Got Away can be ignored.
  • This trait is very good for heroes with low income, like both priests, the Monarch and the Knight.
  • Good for Heroes like the Wizard and Physician because they live close to the Docks, or the Merchant who often trades with foreign lands as a daily responsibility.
  • Interestingly, the AI is clever enough to hunt whale on its own. Just supply an idle hero (with Whale Ate My Parents trait) with a Harpoon plus a Whaleboat and let it "do all the work" while your active hero is questing. This will yield about 10 pieces of whale meat before having to replace the harpoon.

Synergy with other traitsEdit

  • Another Sim with Haggler can supply a Sim with this trait with cheap harpoons. See Item Transfer.
  • This trait is very good in combination with Unkempt, because these Heroes can eat rotten food. So you don't need to create food freshly anymore, each time your hero gets hungry. See Item Transfer.
  • Fatal flaws with recurring 24 hour debuffs (like Drunkard or Licentious) can be used as reminder, to buy a new harpoon.
Note: As of Patch 1.3, there is a bug, where unkempt heroes cannot eat spoiled food with multiple portions, only single portions. So it's advised to take single portions, if you intend to use unkempt.
