Knowledge is an aspect that represents the general education level of the populace. It mainly affects how quickly heroes gain experience, but has other effects too.
A kingdom with a high Knowledge value has a boosted rate of gaining experience. In addition, Sims in knowledgeable kingdoms will occasionally get the "Inspired" buff.
A kingdom with a neutral Knowledge value has an average rate of gaining experience.
A kingdom with a low Knowledge value has a reduced rate of gaining experience. In addition, Sims in low knowledge kingdoms will occasionally get the "Befuddled" debuff (-10 Focus).
When a Kingdom has very low Knowledge, a paltry aspect quest may be offered to help increase the aspect.
Several buildings increase a kingdom's Knowledge capacity when built.
