Forge

A Blacksmith forging an item.

The forge is a piece of furniture which can be used to craft a wide variety of items. Besides battle gear such as swords and armor, it also produces such things as hammers and staffs, as well as being used in certain quests. It is primarily used by the Blacksmith, though the Wizard may craft a more limited selection of items.

Forging[]

Items are crafted through a mini-game of sorts. After the item has been selected, the ingredients will be taken from the smith's inventory and they will stock the forge with coal and light it. They will then proceed to heat the metal, and the player must command them to stop heating it and hammer it instead before it enters the red zone on the heat bar, which is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen. While being hammered, the metal will cool down and the progress bar will go fill; more advanced items require more hammering. While hammering, the player must be sure to watch the heat bar and command the Sim to begin reheating before it enters the blue zone. This process is repeated until the item is finished.

Making mistakes, due to level or allowing the metal to enter the extreme temperature zones, will reduce the quality of the finished product, as displayed in the quality bar. The red portion of the quality bar representes legendary quality, the dark grey represents excellent quality, the light grey represents normal quality and the white represents poor quality. The size of the red and dark grey portions increase along with the simths level and their hammer quality.

Available forges[]

  • Forge
  • Anvil(needed with Forge)

Notes[]

  • Coal may run out during the forging process, in which case the smith will automatically restock and relight the forge. However, the metal will continue to cool down during this, so the Sim should begin reheating earlier than they would normally, if the forge extinguishes while they are hammering.
  • Sims can forge autonomously, though they tend to produce lesser quality items compared to player intervention.
